Popularity of Mobile Phones

With the coming of a lot of innovations in smartphones as a result of stiff competition by the different cellphone brands, almost everyone you meet has a mobile phone unit. You can take a moment and see it for yourself. You can stand along a busy street or sit in a park somewhere and observe. You will notice that whatever people are doing and whatever looks or status they may be in, most of them have a cellphone and in your one hour of observation, they have used their gadgets either in calling, texting, taking pictures, surfing the net, or playing games.

Mobile apps are and have been increasing in number and uses. You can now do a lot of things through your phone that you have not ever imagined possible. Can you still remember the first commercial advertisement about a mute lady using a hand phone and even smiling at it as she read the text messages? It appeared funny at first but just look how far it has become. The future may even be more surprising as there can even be a tendency that cell phones will replace the personally computers and laptops due to their size and for more convenience and mobility.

Why Optimize Website For Mobile

A number of changes have happened in the last decade in the area of online technology. Human life has become so dependent on technology that when you look all over you, everything is managed electronically. Internet has become a household term and anyone who does not understand it may be living a hermit life. Similarly, when you are into business, you are propelled to make yourself advertise online or else you will have very limited access to the large expanse of online market.

However, the issue does not stop with having your products and services advertised through a website. You will still be lagging behind if you do not optimize your website for mobile. As of now, some may find it a little awkward and even unnecessary to go beyond the computers and get more personal as getting into the more intimate gadgets such as mobile phones.

Taking advantage of m-commerce

ComScore’s data show that m-commerce is still a small percentage of total sales for certain categories, but the key is growth. Even if mobile sales are only 10 or 20% of total digital sales, the increased revenue can be a major boost for small businesses.

As ComScore observes, one of the main roads to earning more mobile sales currently runs through social media. Social media apps are among the most popular ways to spend time on a mobile device. By directing your social media traffic to an m-commerce platform, you can earn new sales and begin to cultivate an area of growing importance to retailers and other industries offering mobile sales.

What’s an m-commerce platform? It’s something that’s incredibly easy to create and manage, and that comes included with your Bizness Apps mobile website and app package.

It sounds cheesy, but increased revenue is truly only a few clicks away.

The growth of m-commerce

The growth of m-commerce is impossible to ignore, and is easy to see given that the amount of time spent on retail shopping on various platforms is rapidly changing. Even just one year ago, desktop retail shopping accounted for 49% of all digital retail shopping time. This year, however, without taking into account holiday shopping beyond September, the number has declined to just 41%. Smartphones and tablets now account for 59% of such time, combined. This season’s holiday numbers, once known, will likely show that this trend has skewed further in the direction of mobile.

More and more, people are turning to their mobile devices for shopping.

Just for reference, mobile commerce is worth $41 billion annually, and is headed for $100 billion by 2017, if current trends hold. It’s not a small niche, and it’s not limited to special products, by any means. Consumers are buying anything and everything through their mobile devices, and a third are shopping via mobile exclusively! The size of this market and the variety of products purchased indicate that almost every retailer can enjoy increased sales by offering mobile shopping.

To this effect, mobile commerce services that do not meet consumer expectations, can even hurt a brand or drive traffic to competitors. A recent study by Econsultancy, highlighted that 79 percent of consumers interviewed, admitted turning to a competitor after a poor mobile experience.

With this in mind, here are AIRTAG’s tips for designing a mobile commerce app that streamlines the overall customer journey. These tips have been compiled based on our mobile wallet experience with more than 35+ retailers and brands and shared on Mobile Commerce Daily.

Facts About Mobile Commerce

The Mobile Commerce Guide from Sybase is full of practicable tips and valuable insights into mobile commerce - the process of conducting transactions, marketing, and communication via a mobile device. Here, we highlight some must-know facts.

1. It’s a global trend.
Mobile commerce consists of two categories: mobile financial services and mobile CRM. Due to limited payment methods and limited access to the internet, emerging economies tend to use mostly mobile payment and money transfer services. Developed economies, on the other hand, tend to embrace mobile banking services as an entry point into mobile financial services.

Here are two examples that illustrate global adoption of mobile commerce. Since it launched in Kenya in 2007, M-PESA, a mobile payment service offered by Safaricom, a Vodafone affiliate, has 13 million registered users and handles mobile transactions valued at $400 million each month.

ABI Research estimates that North American sales of physical goods purchased via a mobile device exceeded $1 billion in 2010. That is a 33 percent increase over its 2009 forecast of $750 million.

A report by Juniper Research predicts that mobile payments will reach $600 billion globally before 2013. Some regions, though, are more mobile than others. In a 2010 survey, the Asia-Pacific region consistently ranked ahead of EMEA and the Americas in reported use of mobile communities, mobile banking, vouchers and coupons sent to a phone, and other mobile commerce services.

2. It’s catching on across industries.
Mobile commerce services make it possible for people to perform everyday financial transactions, like paying for parking, from their mobile phone. People who previously had no access to financial services are able to save money, send money between family members, and pay merchants for goods and services with their mobile phone.

Industries outside of the financial sector have also been integrating mobile commerce. Utilities companies update customers on their consumption and enable them to pay bills. Restaurants, hotels, and cinemas provide mobile reservation and booking services.

The retail industry makes use of end-to-end mobile commerce services: from mobile marketing and awareness campaigns, to mobile loyalty programs, vouchers, and surveys, to mobile point-of-sale technology.

Entrepreneurs Make Android Apps for Profit With Andromo App Maker

Now anyone can make an Android app and start earning money with Andromo App Maker for Android. Andromo is a free web service for creating pro-quality Android apps without coding. Without the high cost of hiring a consultant or learning how to program themselves, entrepreneurs can design their own original apps in minutes.

While still in its beta launch, 25,548 Android apps have been sparked at andromo.com. Users are making e-books, how-to videos, ‘fan news’, self-help apps and more and selling them in the Android Market. With hundreds of thousands of app installs already, this translates into cash for their creators.

Android app developers can use Andromo to make money in two different ways, through advertising or sales revenues. The free service allows users to link to their AdMob account and earn ad revenue from their apps. Alternatively, developers can remove the ads from their apps for the introductory price of $99 and earn money from app sales.

“You used to have to either be a programmer or hire a consultant to make an app, which obviously stopped a lot of people before they started,” says Andromo founder Colin Adams. “Basically, we’ve taken away those obstacles and let everyone get in on the Android app gold rush.”

With Andromo, users design their apps choosing from a list of popular features including RSS feeds (Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, WordPress, etc), Flickr photo galleries, interactive maps, websites, YouTube videos, HTML 5/Javascript pages, music players, soundboards and more. Because it takes only a few mouse clicks to design and build a fully-functioning app, entrepreneurs can make one app or hundreds with equal ease.

Mobile Software And Your Small Business Marketing Strategy

If you’ve been following our recent blog posts, you know that we’ve been targeting mobile marketing and how it fits in with your overall small business marketing strategy. This post drills down a bit further to show some of the nuts and bolts – the software and platforms that you can utilize to bring your mobile marketing strategy to life.

Not only can you outsource such tasks as app creation, there also lots of online apps and software platforms available to help you easily create a variety of promotions. Two of the most popular (especially with Facebook, who insists that all app developers use their Facebook API):

1.Strutta – Provides a whole suite of apps that work incredibly smoothly with Facebook’s Timeline. While Strutta is not a free platform, packages start at $99 per month. The platform is fast, easy, and remarkably reliable. Strutta does not deal specifically with mobile campaigns but they do support mobile technology and have a ton of helpful information on mobile integration in their Help section.

2.Wildfire – Already respected as an app company, Wildfire has thrown itself into Facebook’s new Timeline format and mobile marketing overall with gusto. Wildfire offers many helpful apps such as page builder, promotion manager, messenger, analytics, and monitoring abilities.

Free Apps

Whoever said that nothing in life is truly free may have been acquainted with the Apple App Store.  Dozens of games there advertise that they don’t cost a cent, but the developers get you in other ways, including in-app purchases. This business model may be a boon to the small companies churning out these apps, but they also help develop some bad habits among those playing the games.

Of the 300 million-plus people using iOS 6 in one form or another — and millions more using iOS 5 — I get the feeling I’m a dying breed.

Why? I generally dislike and distrust free apps. I can blame some of this on the overwhelming influence of games, kids, and the psychology of the masses. Kids, I get. They don’t have a lot of money, sometimes they are only allowed to download and try free games and apps, and sometimes they have no budget at all. As for games, the most profitable model — from what I can tell — comes very close to the same strategies employed by drug dealers and mass retail stores: Suck your customer in with freebies and super special deals, build habits and addiction, then bleed them dry for things they truly don’t need.

5 Terms That Signify The Future Of Mobile Marketing

1. The Shortcode – Similar to the URL system that has allowed brands to have specific destinations online, the shortcode is giving brands a way to allow direct messaging from their consumers in an easily memorable way. Simply send a single word or a message to a five digit code from your mobile phone and you will get something in return. The simplicity of this format is an important prerequisite to make it truly likely that people will actually use it as it offers a memorable syntax that enables an actionable message to be memorable enough to stick in the minds of consumers on the go.

2. LBS (Location Based Services) – One of the biggest new abilities that new phones are offering is the ability for your phone to know specifically where in the world you are. The potential of a personal GPS in your pocket, so to speak, ofers up all sorts of localized marketing possiblities. Of course, the potential for location based advertising could certainly backfire if people start to get inundated, but used right LBS can be a boon – and offer an important basic capability that enables all sorts of innovation in mobile device tools and marketing.

3. APP(lications) – By now you have probably formed an opinion about Apps, and whether or not you feel like they will save the world, there is no denying that letting someone download a branded tool to enhance their experience of your brand offers great potential for engagement, lead generation and even direct sales. The App revolution, more than anything else, is fueled by a new level of utility in content for mobile devices. The popular tagline "there's an app for that" is based on this ubiquitous utility. When you can find an app to enhance just about anything you are doing, the net effect becomes transformative. Marketing can now do that too.

4. AR (Augmented Reality) – You see a lot of hype about the potential for augmented reality these days, as it finally evolves beyond the realm of science fiction. Whether it is a service like Yelp's Monocle or more practical computer-based effort from USPS that I blogged about some time ago and referred to as "holocam marketing" at the time. Through your mobile device, you can now add a new layer to your interactions that offers more knowledge, more opinions and more suggestions – all live.

5. DMPs (Direct MobilePayments) - Underpinning all these advances is the simple question of how people will be able to move money around. The potential for micropayments has always vastly outsized the reality. The only environment that has ever come close is Apple with iTunes, where you have a linked account and can easily click a button on a device to trigger a micropayment from your own account without having to re-enter or re-confirm credit card details. As the recent text-to-donate campaign for Haiti from the Red Cross showed the world, trying these payments to user's phone bills may offer another solution. If the behaviour of using these direct micropayments can be extended for consumers beyond donations, it would fuel many other marketing efforts.

The Future Of Mobile Marketing

For many marketers, considering mobile marketing year after year is the same story. The year starts off with lots of hype about it finally being the "year of mobile marketing" … and after a month or two, the excitement dies down and reality hits. Most teams realize that they lack the experience or knowledge on what type of messages people will actually engage with and bow to the fear that only a fraction of the people they care about will respond to advertising or marketing in a mobile environment. Predictably, their attention turns elsewhere and mobile marketing initiatives stall. Is this year really going to be any different?

It's hard to predict, but I can say that this year does represent a unique moment where all the different aspects of mobile marketing that have long been preached by believers as signifying a cultural shift that matters to marketers are coming together. There are five concepts in particular that signify this evolution in my mind, and paying attention to their rise is the strongest indicator that mobile marketing may be reaching a new stage of reality

Mobile Marketing or Mobile Advertising: What do Brands Need

Marketers are now experimenting and taking advantages of the growing trend of mobile medium for expanding the strategic marketing competency of the company. However, the concept of mobile marketing is pretty recent and many marketers are only learning it. As a result, many of them have had experiences of a few bumps along their way. In fact, there are many myths associated with mobile marketing and marketers need to debunk them to get a proper insight about the mobile medium and how it can help them to interact with their customers.

The first and most common myth associated with mobile marketing is that for many mobile marketing is all about mobile advertising. According to Mobile Marketing Association, marketing through mobile platform is “a set of practices that enable organizations to communicate and engage with their audience in an interactive and relevant manner through any mobile device or network.”

Technically, it includes marketing as well as advertising. However, it is essential to know the differences between mobile marketing and mobile advertising in order to frame plans for strategic use of both these tools. And the usage of these marketing tools is quite different. For example, mobile advertising uses paid media like banner ads on a third party site, preferably on the mobile website of another brand. In addition, it may involve Google’s paid mobile search campaigns. Mobile marketing, on the other hand, is all about earned or owned media. Unlike ads, marketing is more about creating outlets and channels for your brand where you use your content for building long-term customer relationships. The difference between mobile marketing and mobile advertising is very similar like the differences between traditional public relations and advertising.

Mobile advertising provides more options for a brand’s ads with the help of technology advances; however, it is done on a third-party site, channel or application. In contrast, mobile marketing programs help businesses to allow their customers to interact with their brand by providing information directly to the customers’ mobile phones. Here, brands have the ability to control the experience. Thus, mobile marketing programs have better capability to provide insights about consumer behavior as well as return better results, if done properly.

However, it does not mean that you should omit out mobile advertising entirely from your overall marketing budget. They do play an important role in your marketing plan, but trying to engage your customers only through mobile advertising program will hardly provide any visible result.

3 Keys to Secure Mobile Shopping

1. Use Your Mobile Apps–Not Your Web Browser
Most major and many smaller ecommerce sites have their own mobile application to not only help you find what you want, but to allow you to buy what you want securely. The best way to keep your information secure is to only purchase through a mobile application (as opposed to a live website) every time you pay for something via mobile device.
This may sound extreme, but there is a method behind the reasoning. The simple fact is that web browsers just aren’t as secure as mobile applications. The risk doubles if you’re using a public WiFi hotspot.
If you’re set up in a coffee shop, using WiFi, T-Mobile’s 4G coverage map or your carrier’s 3G network to order that luxury watch you’ve always wanted, just be sure to use an app, and buy from trusted vendors only.

Using a mobile app also provides safety from keyloggers, viruses, and other malicious software that can invade your privacy and record your logins (yes, this type of software exists for mobile devices too!).
What’s that? You say your favorite online shopping spot doesn’t have its own mobile app? It will soon enough. Until that time, protect yourself by shopping only when on your secure, password-protected home network.

2. Make Sure You’re Using the Best App for the Job
In other words, never download or use a third-party application for your mobile device-based shopping. Instead, you should always obtain the appropriate app directly from the Google Play Store or Apple Apps.
Keep in mind that the occasional rogue app does sneak into these stores at times. It happens with Google Play more often than with Apple. In either case, verify the publisher of the application before you download it. If it doesn’t match up with the online store’s business name or parent company, contact the site’s customer support before you download the app.

3. Lock Your Device
Crazy Egg blog recently published a post on some very innovative mobile solutions for e-commerce that’s worth checking out. Whether your applications store your payment information on the device or on your favorite merchant’s servers, most ecommerce mobile apps allow anyone to make a purchase by simply tapping your device’s screen.
Unfortunately, this also means that anyone who somehow gets their hand on your device can tank your bank account in a single afternoon! Mobile devices get lost. Especially phones. It’s just a fact of life, and while most people are honest enough to hand your phone in to the nearest lost and found, not everybody is. So it’s essential that you passcode-protect your device.
With Apple devices, this means a password, four-digit code, or even your fingerprint. Android users can choose between a password and a customized trace pattern. In either case, the most important thing is that you secure your device against intrusion. Add a passcode feature–and make your device require it for every use.

Shop via mobile app instead of directly on the web. Avoid shopping via public wireless networks when possible. Make sure you’re using a safe, authorized application directly from the Apple or Google app store. Always keep your device security locked.
As long as you follow these three security measures, you’ll be 1,000% safer with your mobile shopping than you were before.

How Technology and Mobile Application Development Have Changed Our Lives?

Believe it or not but mobile devices are indispensable part of our lives. In this digital age we can’t imagine our lives without mobile technology that gets us everything on our finger tips. Think about this, how much time do you spend on your mobile devices, particularly smart phones? Or how much dependency do you have on your mobile devices today?

However it is also a fact that mobile devices alone are not sufficient to serve the purposes of people. It is instead the combination of evolving technology and mobile app development that brings us all the convenience we need to operate and achieve our objectives in real time.

For example we can easily
-access financial information, weather forecasts, latest news, etc.;
-manage our daily activities of scheduling, preparing timetables, appointments, etc.;
-communicate or conduct video conferences for businesses;
-conduct our financial transactions;
-entertain and amuse ourselves
with variety of mobile apps developed to serve such purposes. Today there is rarely anything that you can do with desktop and not with mobile computing. Besides people always crave for novelty and innovation that is fast and fierce in the mobile app space.

If we go by the estimates of Portio Research there will be around 4.4 billion mobile app users across the globe by 2017, with a compound annual growth rate of 29.8 per cent each year from the end of 2012 when there were only 1.2 billion mobile app users.
And because such is the scale of demand, no. of appreneurs (app entrepreneurs), app publishers, sellers, app marketers and developers dealing and doing mobile app development business is also elevating, turning mobile app industry a booming and zooming markets.

Think you have an idea that can be converted into an app? Request free initial consultation and quote for your mobile app development project.

Mobile Shopping

Most of us feel safe ordering everything from clothes to books and even food delivery via computer. In fact, TIME Magazine published a story June of last year exclaiming how comfortable we are ordering pizza online, now. But when it comes to shopping via mobile device, many people are overly cautious while other’s aren’t nearly cautious enough!

The simple truth is that shopping from a smartphone or tablet isn’t generally very safe–at least, not the way most people do it. Fortunately, there are a few simple precautions that you can take to ensure your finances stay safe when you use your mobile device.
